My husband is a builder and I own a real estate firm, together we have overseen hundreds of projects. We are currently working on an 18 home subdivision in Hillsborough NC. http://www.thewestendhillsborough.com
It has become the lovely community originally formed in our dreams, with only 4 more homes to build. What has also always been part of the plan is to move the existing 1940's bungalow off of the property to accommodate the 2 last building lots on Nash Street. The time has come as we knew it would. But we were faced with a very important decision: in order to move the home we would ultimately have cut down a specimen Cedar, older than many homes in Hillsborough.
We chose the tree. And so I write an ode to our little bungalow.
Your warmth and shelter welcomed us unconditionally, weathered the storms and aging materials, much like we all have. You brought friends and families together in joy and sorrow, youth and old age. There were parties, good parites, and moments of silence. Life decisions were made under your care, promises kept and some broken. If your walls could talk, the stories you might tell from your journey through time, and the pride you must feel to have been there for those moments.
I thank you 563 North Nash, I will always remember where you stood and so will the trees that shaded you. And to those of you who will read this, you now witnesses what once was, I thank you too. Together let’s celebrate all things that should not go without saying.
